Jim established his consulting practice as JPAC Inc. in 1981. JPAC provides mechanical engineering  consulting services, with a specialty in bolted flanged joints and gaskets. Previously, since receiving his MSci (Structures, U of Ill, '63), Jim was with Exxon Research & Eng. Co. engaged in the  mechanical design and troubleshooting aspects of piping systems and pressure vessels. He participated in Exxon plant start-ups around the world. Jim is a registered PE, has authored papers on bolted joints, gasket testing and behavior and helped develop the MTI Gasket qualification Scheme. He has been active in the bolted joint and gasket activities of the PVRC, ASTM and ASME for many years, is a contributing author to the handbook "Gaskets and Gasketed Joints" (Ed: J. Bickford, Marcel Dekker, 1998) and a founding member of the ASME Special Working Group on Bolted Flanged Joints.
